GargoylesThis is not your average Disney show. Goliath and his clan are Gargoyles from the year 994. Gargoyles are very strong creatures with claws that can cut through stone, but they can only move in the night, for they sleep as stone during the day. Betrayed by the humans they swore to protect, almost his entire clan is destroyed and the survivors sentenced to eternal stone sleep, until their castle rises above the clouds. A thousand years later, a multi-billionaire Xanatos buys the castle and rebuilds it on top of his sky scraper in New York city. The Gargoyles live again, but can they trust humans again? Can they be accepted in this new world. An excellent series with excellent characters and stories. To tell you anymore would spoiling some great stuff. There are two DVD's out at the moment, Season 1(13 eps) and Season 2 Volume 1(26 eps). You can borrow one from me if you want. Batman: TAS/Batman BeyondNot to be confused with The Batman currently running on WB.It's a truest incarnation of Batman next to the Comics themselves. Look into them and other recent DC toons like Justice League if you like super heros. All the seasons of Batman TAS and Batman Beyond are out I believe Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles(2003)Based on the original comic(like most Anime are based on Manga), the new TMNT is far darker than the old cartoon. Characters get stabbed, impaled, and decapitated every once and awhile, as well as the occasional beat down. TMNT Vs. Oroku Saki animated gifThe action is some of the best I've ever seen animated, particular episodes of note are Shredder Strikes Back, Hun on the Run, and Exodus. I have the Shredders Final Count Down dvd if anyone wants to borrow it and spoil the Shredder's final stand. Samurai JackGenndy Tartakovsky's masterpiece, Samurai Jack is about showing you pretty things, from still shots to wild action sequences. It would take well over a thousand words to describe any scene from Samurai Jack. Watch it.(Do know that it remains unfinished) Long ago, in a distant land, I, Aku, the shape shfiting Master of Darkness, unleashed an unspeakable evil. But a foolish samurai warrior wielding a magic sword stepped forward to oppose me. Before the final blow was struck, I tore open a portal in time and flung him into the future, where my evil is law. Now, the fool seeks to return to the past and undo the future that is Aku!Megas XLRYOU DIG GIANT ROBOTS, WE DID GIANTS ROBOTS, I DIG GIANT ROBOTS, CHICKS DIG GIANT ROBOTS! This is a show for geeks. Coop, an overweight, game playing, mechanic winds up controlling a giant robot from the future with his tricked out car and game controllers. While Coop is an amazing pilot, he's not very smart and will end up destroying the city every week. Very funny show, thats been cancelled(because YOU DIDN'T WATCH!) and there are no DVDs at this time.

Wow. Now THERE is a blast from the past...if you will, forgive the corney statement. I used to watch Gargoyles, and the origanil TMNT. NEver saw the Batman run. And never got into the last two, but I'll definately give them my nods!
Coming from a general animation fan (not just anime) I really appreciate this thread!

I love Gargoyles! That sereis was really good. I definetly agree that it is worth checking out. (Though it might be rarther hard to find these days..)
I got to see some Batman Beyond episodes and they were cool. The latest TMNT series was also fairly good.
There are two shows that I can think of that would also be good for anime fans to check out. I don't think my brain is in very good sumary mode, but for those of you who may not know what the series are about:
Transformers: Beast Wars The autobots and deceptecons crash land on a planet and in order to survive must use their advanced technology to morph into animals... (It looked pretty cool, even if my description does not.)
&
Reboot There is a world inside computers, and it is in this world that the story takes place. There is a guardian to protect the sprites from "incoming games". It's difficult for me to explain without going into tons of detail, but suffice to say it was another great series. (Here are a couple of quotes from it: "This is bad... Very bad", "WARNING, incoming game, WARNING, incoming game.") Oh, there is also a cool gadget called glitch that can transform into a lot of different things and help them out... Forgive me, this description does not do the series justice...
Both had really good animation and fairly good quality stories. (In fact, I think they were made my the same group, from Canada, if my memory serves me correctly.)
I love animation in general, though I do have particular fondess for ones that come from Japan... However, I am glad to see this thread as well, because there actually are some other shows that are worthy of attention, in addition to the greats (and bads) coming from Japan.
Another show that probably most people already know about and is perhaps not quite in the same range of grandness as Gargoyles, Reboot and Beast Wars... But still has the flavor of anime, is Teen Titans.

Wow...
I used to stay up late (past my curfew) as a kid to sneak downstairs and watch Gargoyles. ;D Hudson and Bronx were probably my favorites. Along with Fox/Janine.
The others are good ones too. Whoo cartoon network.
I've only seen a few episodes of Reboot, not really enough to get much of an opinion of it.
